Anita Adams, Guest Speaker – “Recalling Havana, A Jewish Tale of Immigration”
As a young girl growing up in Havana, Anita’s life was a richly blended muti-cultural mixture reflective
of her Eastern European ancestry infused with a Jewish-Cuban flair … latkes and flan, piquant Cuban-style brisket served with rice, beans, and plantains.
Then came the Cuban Missile Crisis and everything changed. Like many Jews of the time, the family left for Miami, disrupting her 8 year-old peaceful existence. In addition to hearing Anita’s personal history, we will also explore how this story of flight and immigration parallels with the yearnings of so many migrants and refugees today.
Cuban food specialties will be served.
