Amy Degen, a resident of Groton, MA, as a Holocaust educator, visited Poland last year on an educational tour. While there, she visited the former sites of Jewish cemeteries in Bialystock in search of her ancestors’ graves. She discovered the cemeteries were over grown and the grave stones were toppled over. Amy learned that unless the cemeteries were restored, the land could ultimately be claimed by the government as abandoned property.
When Amy came home and relayed this to her husband Josh, they immediately began planning to correct the situation.
Amy comes to Congregation Beth Israel to describe their mission to Bialystock to reclaim a Jewish Cemetery.
